Love compatibility by birth date gives you three fast views of a relationship: zodiac signs, numerology and the Destiny Matrix. With two dates, the calculator below shows your themes in seconds.
Love compatibility by birth date: zodiac and the four elements
Zodiac compatibility by birth date starts with elements: fire, earth, air and water. Each sign belongs to one element, and element pairs show how two temperaments mix.
Here is how the 12 signs group into elements.
| Element | Signs |
|---|---|
| Fire | Aries, Leo, Sagittarius |
| Earth | Taurus, Virgo, Capricorn |
| Air | Gemini, Libra, Aquarius |
| Water | Cancer, Scorpio, Pisces |
Astrological tradition looks at each pair of elements as a style of connection. Use this table as a quick reference for horoscope compatibility by birth date.
| Element pair | How it often feels |
|---|---|
| Fire + Fire | Very active, fast decisions, shared enthusiasm; needs care with impatience and conflict. |
| Earth + Earth | Stable, practical, focused on results; watch out for getting stuck in routine. |
| Air + Air | Talkative, idea-rich, mentally stimulating; grounding feelings may take extra effort. |
| Water + Water | Emotional, intuitive, very attuned; boundaries and perspective help. |
| Fire + Air | Traditionally complementary: ideas and action fuel each other, but pacing can differ. |
| Earth + Water | Traditionally complementary: care and stability support each other, with a shared need for safety. |
| Fire + Earth | Different temperaments: drive meets practicality; needs translating around speed and risk. |
| Fire + Water | Different temperaments: passion meets depth; emotions can run high and need care. |
| Earth + Air | Different temperaments: plans meet ideas; balance between flexibility and structure is key. |
| Air + Water | Different temperaments: talk meets feeling; both benefit from slowing down and clarifying. |
Some sign pairs are also opposite signs. Opposites face each other across the zodiac wheel: Aries–Libra, Taurus–Scorpio, Gemini–Sagittarius, Cancer–Capricorn, Leo–Aquarius, Virgo–Pisces. Tradition views them as pairs of strong attraction and completion, with tension around what each tends to overdo.

Once you know the signs and elements, you can start reading your marriage compatibility by birth date as shared themes, not as a fixed verdict about the future.
Example of love compatibility by birth date: Taurus and Scorpio
A worked example makes love compatibility by birth date more concrete. Here is how it looks for Anna and Mark.
Anna, born 15 May 1990, is a Taurus (earth). Mark, born 5 November 1984, is a Scorpio (water). Taurus and Scorpio are opposite signs, and earth with water is a pair that tradition calls complementary.
Taurus values stability and what is tangible; Scorpio values depth and intensity. A typical theme for this pair is security and control: who holds it, how it is shared and how both people feel safe without holding on too tightly.
You can use this the same way for your own pair: check your signs and elements, see if you are opposite signs, and then ask yourself what the themes sound like in your real connection.
Rising sign, Moon and birth time: why your sun sign is only the start
Love compatibility by birth date based only on sun signs is a simplification. The rising sign and Moon show important layers of how you meet others and feel close.
The rising sign (ascendant) is the sign that was rising on the eastern horizon at the moment of birth. It changes roughly every 2 hours, so it needs an exact birth time and place. Your Moon sign shows your emotional needs and reactions, and many people feel it strongly in close relationships.
In synastry, the method of comparing two birth charts, astrologers look at the Sun, Moon, rising sign, Venus, Mars and how they connect between two charts. A sun-sign match can feel very different once these pieces are added, so treat simple sign compatibility as a first look, not a final answer.
If you know your birth time, you can use a rising sign calculator to go deeper.

Calculate my rising sign →Numerology love compatibility by birth date: life path numbers and the couple number
Numerology compatibility, often called life path number compatibility, reads the two main numbers from your birth dates and how they combine into a couple number. It focuses on what you are learning through this relationship.
Your life path number is the sum of all digits of the birth date, reduced to one digit, with 11 and 22 sometimes kept as they are. From the brief example, Anna’s life path number comes from adding the digits of 15 May 1990: 1 + 5 + 0 + 5 + 1 + 9 + 9 + 0 = 30, and 3 + 0 = 3.
Mark’s life path number comes from adding the digits of 5 November 1984: 0 + 5 + 1 + 1 + 1 + 9 + 8 + 4 = 29, and 2 + 9 = 11. Here 11 is treated as a master number, and it can also be reduced to 2 for some readings.
The couple number is the two life path numbers added together and reduced to one digit. For Anna and Mark, the couple number is 3 + 11 = 14, and 1 + 4 = 5.
In numerology, couple number 5 is a relationship of movement, freedom and change. The challenge often lies in how to combine freedom with closeness, so both people feel alive and also secure.
Some numerologists also group numbers into natural families:
- 1–5–7: independence and searching
- 2–4–8: stability and building
- 3–6–9: expression and care
Numbers from the same family are said to understand each other more easily, while numbers from different families learn from each other. This is one tradition, not a verdict, and it is one more way to read romantic compatibility by birth date free of fixed promises.
Destiny Matrix compatibility: the partnership matrix
Destiny Matrix compatibility builds a partnership matrix from your two separate matrices. It shows 22-arcana themes for your connection, point by point.
The partnership matrix (the 22-arcana method) is built from two matrices: each of Anna’s points is added to the same point of Mark’s matrix and reduced to an arcanum from 1 to 22. This creates shared points that describe key questions in the relationship.
In the example from the brief, Anna’s matrix centre is 6 and Mark’s is 13; together 6 + 13 = 19, The Sun. That is the point called “The Energy at the Start”: the energy that holds the relationship at its centre. For this couple, it describes a core of warmth, visibility and shared life-force.
The couple’s point A is 15 + 5 = 20, Judgement, which the report reads under the question “What You Met For”. This point talks about themes of awakening, seeing things clearly and important decisions they face together.
The full partnership report has 9 parts:
- Beginning and Meaning of the Relationship
- Emotions and Spiritual Closeness
- Family Inheritance
- The Karma of the Relationship
- Closeness and Sexuality
- What the Relationship Stands On
- Money as a Couple
- Parenthood
- What You Are Together For
The calculator shows the couple’s matrix and the first readings right away, for free. You can try it here and see how your own arcana combine.
When you look at these parts together, you get a structured picture of themes you can talk about: where you feel close, where you may repeat old patterns and how you handle money, intimacy and daily responsibilities as a pair. You can return to the report over time and notice which parts feel most active in different phases of the relationship.

Human Design for couples: what two charts show
Human Design adds another layer to love compatibility by birth date, using the exact date, time and place of birth for both people. It compares two charts to show how your energies meet.
In Human Design charts, you can see channels you only complete together, which are places of strong attraction. You can also notice where both of you are open, which can feel very sensitive and may need extra awareness so outside influences do not push you into reactions that are not really yours. You also see centers that are defined in one person and open in the other: an open center takes in and amplifies the other person’s energy. This can explain why some dynamics feel intense.
It helps to know your own type, strategy and authority first; the free chart shows them right away and can guide how you interact. Then, looking at two charts together becomes more practical: you see where it helps to slow down, who tends to lead which processes and where you naturally support each other.

Get my Human Design →What love compatibility by birth date can't tell you
Compatibility by birth date can give you themes and questions, but not a verdict. No method can say for sure whether a relationship will last or who you “should” be with.
Astrology, numerology, the Destiny Matrix and Human Design all describe tendencies: where understanding comes easily and where you may need more conversation. They can be especially helpful when you use them as prompts to talk about needs, fears and hopes with the other person.
They do not replace your own decisions, values or work on the relationship. Any long-term connection is made by the daily choices of two people, not by charts or numbers.
Tarot can also support this reflection, even though it does not calculate compatibility. A card of the day can open a conversation about your relationship with questions like “What do we need from each other right now?” or “What are we not seeing clearly together?”
