What zodiac sign are people born in July?
People born in July fall under either Cancer or Leo in Western astrology. Cancer birthdays in this month run from July 1 to July 22. Leo birthdays in July run from July 23 to July 31.
Astrologers associate Cancer with the water element and Leo with the fire element. This shift from water to fire in late July describes a move from a more protective, nurturing style to a more expressive, confident one.
Cancer: birthdays from July 1 to July 22
People born from July 1 to July 22 have Cancer as their zodiac sign in astrological tradition. Cancer is a water sign, linked with instinct, feelings and emotional memory. Cancer people often move through life by sensing the mood in a room and responding to what others need.
In conversation, Cancer people may listen carefully and remember small details from past talks. When making decisions, they often check how a choice will affect the feeling at home or in a close relationship.
In July, two Cancer decans are active. Cancer II decan covers July 1–10. People born in this period are often described by astrologers as especially focused on loyalty, shared history and emotional bonds. They may prefer familiar routines and long‑term connections.
Cancer III decan covers July 11–22. People born under this decan are still Cancer, but astrologers often see a stronger pull toward self-protection and clear personal boundaries. They might care deeply yet guard their private world, sharing their feelings only with people they trust.
Leo: birthdays from July 23 to July 31
People born from July 23 to July 31 have Leo as their zodiac sign in astrological tradition. Leo is a fire sign, linked with enthusiasm, visibility and a strong sense of personal style. Leo people often prefer to be straightforward about what they want.
In everyday life, this can show as taking the lead in a group project or setting the tone during a social event. They may enjoy clear appreciation and respond well when their efforts are noticed.
All July Leo birthdays fall in the Leo I decan, from July 23–31. Astrologers tend to see this decan as highlighting the classic Leo themes of confidence, warmth and dramatic flair. People born in this period may naturally draw attention, whether they seek it or not.
The zodiac cusp in July
The shift from Cancer to Leo in July does not happen at the same clock time every year. Between 1930 and 2030 in US Eastern Time, the Sun entered Leo on July 22 in some years and on July 23 in others. Of people born on July 22, about 79% are Cancer. Of people born on July 23, about 89% are Leo.
Because the Sun’s entry into Leo happens at a specific hour that changes each year, people born on July 22 or July 23 need their exact birth date, time and place to be sure of their sign. Each July day page has a tool that uses the birth year to check whether a birthday on one of these dates is Cancer or Leo.
